I finally finished restoring the Mellotron M400 that’s been here for a while and decided to make a video where I explain how it works! Check it out if you’re curious about this wacky old instrument.

  1. This was so interesting to watch! I absolutely love the Mellotron, and its insanity is a big part of the appeal. Thanks so much for this up-close look at how they actually work.

  2. I was reminded of the existence of the mellotron while watching a documentary on television about David Bowie. Rick Wakeman spoke very briefly about the instrument, making particular mention of the fact that each tone only lasts for a specific time: he suggested about eight seconds. This prompted me to find out why this was the case as I had no idea how the tones are produced in a mellotron. Anyway, I came across your superb mellotron restoration video which answered that question and so much more. Thank you.

  3. How lucky you are that you had the opportunity to service such a legendary instrument! Do you actually own a Mellotron? I dream of owning an actual vintage Mark II, but I’ll have to hit the lottery first. Lol! If I do, I’ll be sure to contact your company to service it.

    Cheers!

  4. THIS WAS BRILLIANT ! Someone actually took the time & effort to SHOW how these instruments work! Thank you SO MUCH !
